SUPP to field new, young face in Lanang

SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is in the process of preparing for the upcoming 14th General Election (14GE).

According to potential candidate for Lanang, Kelvin Kong the upcoming general election will feature a new and young face to represent the Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest the Lanang seat.

“The 14th general election is expected to be held any time from now until the middle of next year,” he said during an Aidilfitri gathering held at Merasa Cafe, Jalan Sentosa here last Saturday night.

Kong also said that the defeat of BN candidate in the Lanang parliamentary constituency in 2013 has resulted in the loss of so many allocations from the Federal government.

Besides, the development of Lanang parliamentary was also delayed unlike other areas won by BN.

“SUPP is hoping for close cooperation among BN component parties to ensure full support from the people and voters in the Lanang parliamentary constituency.

“We in SUPP under the leadership of our president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian need the support and encouragement from all of you to face the challenges ahead,” he said and urged the people to consider all factors before making the right choice.

Meanwhile, another potential candidate for Lanang, Councillor Joseph Chieng said he was proud to be able to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the various communities irrespective of their race and religion.

“This is indeed the spirit of Sarawak where we can live in peace and harmony which is very important for political stability.

“We have been visiting many areas in the Lanang parliamentary constituency particularly the rural areas. Our purpose is to get closer to the people,” he said.

The gathering was made merrier with a musical band performance, lucky draws and presentation of prizes to winners of a colouring contest for children.

The event was organised by Saberkas Usahajaya Unit and coordinator of BN-SUPP Lanang.

Among those present were chairman of SUPP Bukit Assek Branch, Chieng Boun Toon, chairman of Saberkas Usahajaya Unit, Waili Ali and Sentosa Village chief, Mohd Ali.
