KUCHING: Sarawak Energy hosted a breaking of fast event at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Monday night, for some 250 guests comprising the corporation’s stakeholders, media as well as senior citizens and children from Rumah Seri Kenangan and Rumah Seri Murni respectively.

They were invited to break fast together with the management team led by Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sharbini Suhaili, as a gesture of appreciation for their support.

The gathering also served as an oportunity to give back to the community by sharing the joy of the holy month of Ramadan with the less fortunate.

“Breaking fast with Sarawak Energy is a yearly get together that we organise to foster a closer working relationship with our media friends and stakeholders and at the same time, give back to the community.

“Sarawak Energy advocates inclusiveness, celebrates diversity and embraces the different culture of its 4,600 strong workforce and we believe gatherings such as this augurs well in building relationships and fostering closer rapport.

“Our vision is to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for Sarawak while also aspiring to become a region powerhouse for ASEAN as we strive to provide reliable, sustainable and affordable energy to all our customers and we can only function effectively with support from all,” said Sarbini.

He added, with strong support of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak Energy signed the Share Sale Agreement with Federal Ministry of Finance in May 2017 to acquire 100 per cent shares in Sarawak Hidro Sdn Bhd.

“With this, there is a great opportunity to optimise the delivery and performance of 2400MW Bakun facility, together with operational synergy with our Murum Hydropower Plant.

“We are also expecting first power from Balingian coal fired power plant at the end of 2017,” he pointed out, adding besides energy development and generation, they were also taking aggressive steps to further improve their transmission and distribution infrastructure and to enhance their customer experience.

Elaborating, Sarbini said, in their efforts together with Ministry of Utilities to provide Sarawakians with access to 24/7 electricity, state domestic coverage is now at 94 per cent.

“Rural coverage has improved significantly from 55 per cent in 2008 to 87 percent in 2016.

“Our innovative partnership under Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom’s steer called Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES), to light up Sarawak’s most remote communities was successfully and officially launched by Johari, and is progressing well.

“Apart from that, in line with the latest technology development, we were the first power utility in Malaysia to have a mobile app.

“Today, our SEB CARES app provides a platform for customers to view their accounts, pay their bills and report breakdowns such as malfunctioning street lighting online.

“Sarawak Energy will continue to digitalise our processes for greater efficiency and to add value for our customers, and of course to support the state in its drive to become a digital economy,” explained Sharbini.
