KUCHING: Sarawak Energy is bringing its Junior Badminton Championship to Sibu next week, following a positive response to the inaugural edition held here earlier this year. The tournament will see more than 300 young shuttlers from various schools in Sibu division on the courts at Perfect Win Badminton Centre at Sibu Central Market from Dec 17 to 20.

Medals and prizes worth more than RM8,000 are up for grabs. It will feature the following age group categories of Under 12, Under 15 and Under 19 in the respective boy’s singles, girl’s singles, boy’s doubles and girl’s doubles events.

The boy’s singles and girl’s singles also include the Under 10 category for the first time. The state-owned energy development company and power utility aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and support the development of young aspiring shuttlers through the competition by providing an additional avenue for the shuttlers to compete and prepare for future local, regional and international level competitions. The championship was held in Kuching last August and saw 300 players from throughout the state competing here to test their skills against some of the best young shuttlers in Sarawak.
