S’wak police personnel mobilised to interior from yesterday

KUCHING: The police have mobilised personnel to the interior areas in Sarawak yesterday to assist in the polling process in the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Seri Amer Awal said at least 400 personnel would be deployed to the rural areas such as Baram, Kapit, Marudi and Belaga after they carried out their postal voting and early voting obligation.

He said 9,291 police personnel in Sarawak would be carrying out early voting tomorrow and those being deployed to the interior areas for the GE would then proceed to their respective areas.

“We have also prepared food supplies for six days for our personnel assigned to the interior areas,” he told a media conference after fulfilling his obligation as a postal voter at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters here today.

He said a total of 1,123 police personnel throughout Sarawak cast their ballot by post in 28 police district stations.

Meanwhile Amer said so far Sarawak police have received 692 applications to hold public ceramah by political parties contesting in the  GE14.

The total number comprised 486 applications from the Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) 99, and the rest from other political parties.
