KUCHING: Sarawak cricket squad U-12 aim to reach the semi-finals of the National Elite Cricket Championships Under-12 2017 for the Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid Shield in Kuala Lumpur from May 15 to 21.

The chairman of Technical Cricket Council Sarawak Schools Sports (MSSS), Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said they set the target to be in the top four (semi-final) on the tournament.

He was optimistic that his team hopes, taking into account the team’s preparation.

He said, the squad, which also strengthened by 15 young talented players are capable of springing a surprise.

“The squad have 15 players who were selected from four schools, SK Tabuan Hilir, SK Kampung Senari, SK Tasudda and SK Bako.

“I believe that the players can ensure that Sarawak qualified to the semi-finals,” he said.

Earlier this week, the squad were given a boost by receiving the official jersey sponsor from the Hornbills from a leading ice cream manufacturer, DP Ice Cream Gula Apong.

The ceremony was officiated by executive chairman of DP Ice Cream Gula Apong, Datuk Haji Paruwadi Musa.

“We hope the team can surprise and bring success to the State,” said Paruwadi.

Sarawak are drawn in Group B together with Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang and Perak.

Meanwhile, Group A comprises Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sabah and Negeri Sembilan.
