S’wak to host 23rd ATV Awards

KUCHING: The State will be hosting the 23rd Asian Television Awards at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from January 11 to 12, 2019.

In a press conference at BCCK here yesterday, the Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced the collaboration with Asian Television (ATV) Awards Sdn Bhd in the presence of the ATV Awards Sdn Bhd chairman, Lee Keen Whye.

ATV Awards Sdn Bhd has been licensed to hold this prestigious event to continue the legacy of the yearly appreciation awards.

The upcoming event will showcase numerous awards across 43 categories and recognise best performances, programmes and production excellence of the Asian television industry.

In addition, the state will play host to over 500 international delegates in the film and entertainment industry. These include the creme de la creme of film producers, directors, performers, host talents, judges, nominees, up to 60 celebrities and key sponsors from the participating countries all over Asia.

Karim will host the Gala Dinner on the first day of the event, while the second day will be the live show with Red Carpet and Performance Awards Presentation, followed by a public concert on the third day at the Amphitheatre at Jalan Budaya Kuching. Key partners include Sarawak Tourism Board and Sarawak Convention Bureau.

Members of the public will be invited to join the live show by taking part in contests. These will be organised by ATV Awards Sdn Bhd in the run up to the event. Mechanism of the contest will be unveiled later to the public.

The live show will be televised across Asia including iFlix, Jiangsu Broadcasting in China, Bangkok TV in Thailand, Lifestyle Channel in Philippines as well as TodayTV in Vietnam.

On the third day, the event will promote Sarawak as a hotspot destination in this particular industry and potentially boost the arrivals of tourists in line with Visit Sarawak Campaign.

The event will also see appearances by two hosts of Asian Television Awards, namely Adrian Jalaludin and Choy Wan.
