Swift action prevents fire from spreading

MIRI: Adjoining workers’ quarters in one block of building at Kuala Baram here were saved from fire on Tuesday night, after alert residents spotted smokes coming out from the building.

Ten firemen led by PBK II Peter Ngumbang were immediately despatched to the scene after responding to an emergency call around 7.26pm. The scene is located at about 20km from the city centre.

It was believed that the fire had started out from one of the kitchens of the workers’ quarters. Prel iminar y inves t igat ion revealed that the fire might have been caused by unattended cooking.

Fortunately, swift action taken by several residents at that time managed to prevent any untoward incident caused by the fire incident including preventing the fire from spreading. According to sources, the fire was successfully put out by the residents themselves using fire extinguishers.
