TUPONG assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has urged the local authorities and relevant ministry to strengthen their efforts in curbing illegal online gambling.

He said with the rapid development of digital technology, illegal online gambling has also evolved at the same rate.

“Today, one only needs to go to a grocery store to reload their credit on their mobile phones, which is used for online betting.

“This matter has to be taken seriously and regulated as this could leave a negative impact onto the local community and I have received a lot of complaints on this matter,” he said during his Debate Speech on the Supply Bill 2019 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, yesterday.

Meanwhile, he also added that the ‘Rumah Ibupertiwiku’ programme should be expanded in order to support the increasing number of people migrating from the rural areas.

Fazzrudin said that the programme was well received by the public when it was announced by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We hope that the programme can be expanded to areas throughout the state which experience an influx of migration from the rural areas.

“Tupong is one of the constituencies in the city area that will be affected by this migration and the expansion of the existing family would need a housing programme in order to accommodate them,” said Fazzrudin.

He added that Matang is also an area that would be suitable for the implementation of the programme that can benefit the people.
