Talk on obesity attracts 60

MUKAH: About 60 teachers and parents attended a talk on obesity jointly organised by PPD Mukah and Mukah Division Health Department at Mukah District Education Office here on Saturday.

The attendees were members of school Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) in the Mukah District.

The talk was meant to address obesity in schools through the participation of PIBG members.

The facilitators were Dr Normy Bt Kunyo, Food Science Officer, Mazuin Akai, Health Promoting Officer, Haji Nadziri@Ismail B Daud, Food Science Officer, Antonia Dedo, Mukah Division C-HAT Main Coach, Rapiee Jaimin B Yahya and Elizabeth from PPD Mukah as the programme coordinator.

The half-day event which concluded with lunch was officially closed by Aishah Haji Ahmad who represented Mukah District Education Officer, Haji Bugin Haji Ragoon.

The five-hour programme which was aimed at providing a clear picture on the problem of obesity in the country to the parents included a practical response that should be undertaken by the parents and teachers regarding the matter.

Among topics touched in the talk included healthy eating habits, Body Mass Index (BMI) monitoring activity, creating awareness among PIBG members on healthy eating programme in schools and making them as ‘Ambassador of Change’ by practicing healthy eating in school.
