SRI AMAN: A 13-year-old student was arrested by police for allegedly poisoning his classmate by mixing roach poison into his food at a school here last Thursday.

Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar (pic) said the Form One student was picked up by CID Sri Aman at a house in Taman Sri Jaya here at 2.30pm on Friday.

“Initial investigation revealed that the suspect had brought a container of fried noodles and a box of roach poison to school. While in the class, the suspect mixed some of the poison that was in powder form with the noodles.

“The suspect then offered the noodles to the victim, who then ate it. A few minutes later, the victim started vomiting. Seeing the incident the suspect panicked and passed the poison to another classmate who then informed the teacher of what had transpired,” he said.

The victim was rushed to Sri Aman Hospital by the school authorities.

Following the incident, the victim’s father, 49, from Pantu, rushed to the hospital after he was informed by a teacher that his son was sent to the hospital for treatment.

Dev Kumar said the victim’s father lodged a police report after he was informed by a doctor that his son had ingested poison.

“Police are still investigating the motive of the incident. The case has been classified under Section 328 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by means of poison,” he said, adding that the police had seized the box of roach poison.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s grandfather lodged a police report at Sri Aman Police Station at 5.00pm on Friday following the incident.

Dev Kumar said the report stated that the victim bullied the suspect and extorted money and food from him on a daily basis.

“We will also be investigating the report in connection with the poisoning case,” he added.
