“Tanjung Manis POIC has been developed since 2009 at the total cost of RM135.7 million for the infrastructure development. Another POIC that has been approved in Sarawak is located in Bintulu.

“The development of Tanjung Manis POIC is very strategic as it is located in the central region of Sarawak. This POIC is surrounded by clusters of oil palm plantations of not less than 400,000 hectares,” he said at the launching of Tanjung Manis Palm Oil Bulking Facilities held at Tanjung Manis here on yesterday.

Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment, said that throughout Sarawak the State Government has approved 2 million hectares of land consisting of State land and Native Customary Rights (NCR) land for the development of oil palm plantations.

“So far, 1.5 million hectares have been planted with oil palm. Big areas are also being developed for oil palm plantations in neighboring country, Indonesia.”

“This provides huge opportunities for Tanjung Manis POIC to grow and to support their business undertakings,” he said.

Besides that, he said there are 33 mills for processing crude palm oil with the capacity of 1.2 million metric tons have been operating in southern region of Sarawak.

According to him, Palm Oil Bulking Facilities (POBF) is the first palm-oil based industry in Tanjung Manis POIC.

“Total investment for phase 1 to provide crude palm oil bulking facilities is RM70 million. The 70 million facilities were initiated by Tanjung Manis Bulkers Sendirian Berhad, a joint-venture between Pusaka Capital Group and KTS Group. Pusaka Capital is a subsidiary and investment arm of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC),” he added.

He therefore said that POBF main facilities include 16 units of storage tank with maximum capacity of 64,000 metric tons.

The other associated facilities of POBF are oil bays, pump house, boiler house, weighbridge control room, workshop, store, boiler room, water treatment plant and administrative block, he said.
