MUKAH: Three people were killed while six others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents here and Sarikei, last Sunday.

Mukah District Police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau, lorry driver, Edin Mill, 22, from Rh Anting Batu Bansu, Kapit, and one of his passengers, Jacky Jasam, 24, from Rh Anti Saka, Betong, perished while another passenger, Augustine Donul Gasan, 19, from Miri, sustained minor injuries in a self accident at around 7.30pm at KM7 Jalan Mukah-Balingian.

He said at the time of the incident, the victims were heading to Balingian from Mukah when the three-tonne lorry suddenly went out of control, skidded and crashed into a transmission tower by the roadside.

Jimmy said the remains of the two victims were taken to Mukah Hospital for further action and police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.

Meanwhile according to Bernama, in the other incident along Jalan Sarikei-Betong about 16.8 kilometres from Sarikei town around 4.10pm, a woman died while her husband sustained a broken leg when their Proton Saga collided with a van carrying four Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) personnel aged between 26 and 36 years.

Sarikei District Police chief, Supt Mat Jusoh Muhammad said trader Normadiah Awie, 57, and Samarin Mat, 57, who was driving the car, were heading to Kabong from Sibu when the van skidded on the slippery road following heavy downpour and veered into the opposite lane, hitting the couple’s vehicle.

The four MACC staff including the van driver, who were heading to Bintulu from Kuching, sustained minor injuries.
