MIRI: Three people were injured when a 57-year-old man walked to a gas station in Desa Senadin near here armed with a machete (parang) last Sunday evening.

Those injured in the 6.50pm incident included two female workers of the gas station, aged 19 and 23 years. They were later taken to Miri Hospital for treatment.

Another injured victim (the third victim) was a 48-year-old man who happened to be a father of one of the injured gas station workers.

The father was at the time refuelling his car.

When he saw the incident he tried to catch the suspect and a struggle ensued between the two.

It was during the struggle that the man was slashed on his right cheek.

The suspect was arrested after a 500-metre chase.

Prior to the incident, the suspect had walked into the gas station pretending to look for items before he suddenly took out a machete at the payment counter.

He then attacked the gas station workers repeatedly using the machete before grabbing some cash before he fled the scene.

A CCTV footage on the incident had gone viral in Facebook shortly after the incident.

Acting Miri Police chief, DSP Aldrin Junaidi Kutoi when confirning the incident said the suspect is being detained and the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal code.
