Three suspects arrested for murder of oil plantation manager

KUCHING: State Head CID SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar said three suspects had been arrested for the murder of an oil palm plantation manager whose decomposed body was found on March 18 at 10.35 am.

The body was found in Ulu Sg. Enseluai, Sarikei. He was believed to have died a few days already.

Dev Kumar said on the following day, the body was positively identified by the family as one Jampong anak Jon, aged 52 years from Rh. Rasit, Sungai Sentebu, Sarikei. The victim was a widower and a part-time labourer.

The post mortem was conducted on 21 March and several stab wounds were found on the victim’s body. The cause of death was ascertained as injury due to sharp force trauma. The case was then investigated as murder under section 302 of the Penal Code.

On 22 March, a team from D9 CID HQ was dispatched to Sarikei to assist in the investigation. After conducting investigations at the crime scene and interviewing witnesses, on 23 March (yesterday) at 2.00 pm, the D9 team led by ASP Taruna Madian arrested a person of interest at a longhouse at Sungai Entebu Sari, Sarikei.

After questioning, the 28-year old man, a labourer admitted to the killing. After a drinking session on 15 March this year, the suspect and victim got into a fierce argument and the suspect stabbed the victim several times. He then dragged the victim and hid the body in the bushes.

The knife that was used to stab the victim was recovered in the suspect’s house at about 6.00pm yesterday.

Further investigation revealed that there were three suspects involved. One of the suspects held the victim while another stabbed him. The third suspect was present during the murder.

Yesterday at 6.30 pm, a CID team from Sarikei led by Insp. Anbarasu
Gobi arrested the second and third suspect, age 37 and 34 years old at a longhouse at Sungai Sentebu, Sarikei.

The CID chief congratulated the D9 HQ team and CID Sarikei for solving this case within a short period of time. With this arrest, Sarawak police have solved all the five murder cases that have been reported so far this year (in Sibu, Miri, Padawan, Sri Aman and Sarikei).
