KUCHING: Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds are expected throughout the state in the early hours and afternoons for the next week.

Meteorological Department Sarawak director Wong Teck Kiong when contacted yesterday said it is a normal thunderstorm and is not severe as it is only expected to last for two to three hours, which was why no warnings were issued.

However, Wong said that if the thunderstorms and strong winds coincide with the high tide, the low-lying areas may be prone to flooding.

As such, he advised those in low-lying areas or living near rivers or big drains to keep an eye out on the water level.

On the wind and sea conditions, Wong said the wind condition will be between 20km-30km per hour while the sea condition is also expected to be normal between one meter to 1.5m high.
