KOTA BHARU (Kelantan): Representatives of Sarawak, Serian FA are now at the verge of the National Level People’s Football League (LBR) 2016/2017 title after defeating Gua Musang FA with 1-0 in the first leg final at the Sultan Mohamad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu Kelantan on Sunday night.

Former Sarawak player, Mahadi Razak turned hero of the Serian FA after scoring a pretty goal in the 48th minute from outside the penalty box.

Serian FA could have won more comfortably had their two strikers, Hadera Bakeri and Paul Sambang capitalised on the chances.

But with the victory, Serian FA still have a good chance to win the title. They only need a draw in their second match at the State Stadium in Petra Jaya Kuching this Sunday (May 21).

“We have already passed the first test,” said the coach of Serian FA, Rozaini Romainor.

“But the championship is not yet within our grasp because there are still another 90 minutes to play,” he added. Rozaini admitted that his players had performed according to the designed plan.

“We kind of lost causes at the beginning of the competition when the host team gave quite stiff competition,” he said.

“But we managed to offset the pace and scored an important goal for advantage in the second leg,” said Rozaini. Meanwhile, team manager, Phillip Jabu said he was quite happy with the win.

“The players have past the initial target, and we will try to keep this advantage for the second leg final in Kuching,” says Phillip.

In the match on Sunday, Serian FA has lined up its best players, including three former Sarawak player strikers, Paul Sambang, Mahadi Razak and Mohamad Hadera Bakeri upfront together with Afizam Razak.

Meanwhile, Shahrul Abdul Malek, Naim Drahman played in the midfield. Mohamad Shukri Ahmad, Abbel Akwen Sivie, Hasrol Mantong and Max Jagger Ak Mike in defender position and Rizal Ahmad act as a goalkeeper.
