SINGAPORE: Sarawak has recorded a 16.5 percent increase in tourist arrivals from Singapore this year, from January to July.

This was said by the Sarawak Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin during the unveiling ceremony of the Visit Sarawak Year logo in Singapore, as part of its West Malaysia – Singapore – Shenzen – London road show circuit in Singapore on Thursday night.

The road shows are a precursor to Visit Sarawak’s official launch later this year; the Singapore road show is a follow-up to the unveiling of the logo in West Malaysia on Tuesday (October 16).

“This is a good indicator of gaining interest from the Singapore market, which is partly attributable to the increased flights from Singapore through Scoot, Malaysia Airlines, and Air Asia, which are making daily trips.

“This gives us a total of more than 600 seats made available every day from Singapore to Kuching.

“We will be looking into intensifying efforts to increase arrivals from Singapore. In the coming year, Singaporeans can look forward to more new packages that will provide competitively priced offerings focusing on culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals,” he said.

Sarawak Tourism Board CEO, Sharzede Salleh Askor, who was also present during the event, said that Singapore will be a central hub for STB’s marketing strategies as the Sarawak state government will be setting up an office in Singapore next year.

“We have seen increased interest in the three-day, two night Kuching getaway packages from Singaporeans, with Central Sarawak being a rising attraction,” she said.
