Trio busted for drug trafficking

KUCHING: Police arrested three individuals for allegedly trafficking drugs in two separate operations in Bau and Serikin last Friday.

The first raid was carried out around 3.00pm at Kampung Serikin where an Indonesian man was found in possession of two straw tubes and three packets of crystalline substance believed to be syabu with an estimated weight of 79.7 grammes.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect who was tested positive for drugs admitted to taking drugs since 2014.

Following the arrest of the 31-year-old man, police raided a workshop in Bau an hour later and detained two individuals for allegedly trafficking drugs worth RM37,240.

During the raid police seized a straw tube and six packets of crystalline substance believed to be syabu, a car and RM3,240 in cash.

The suspects, aged 46 and 26, from Kampung Serikin, were taken to a police station for questioning. During the questioning, the duo admitted to taking drugs since 2005 and they got their supply in Batu Kawah New Township (MJC) here.

All three suspects have been detained to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 which provides a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
