KUCHING: President of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS), Dato Posa Haji Majais disclosed there are two big names who are keen to lead the Ngap Sayot squad to face the Malaysia League campaign 2018.
One of the candidates for the head coach job used to play with the Sarawak squad a long time ago while the other candidate is from abroad.
“We have received applications from both candidates. However, to-date I have not been able to make any decision on it,” said Dato Posa.
Saying he will discuss in more details regarding the matter as soon as the two different leagues (Malaysia Cup 2017 & Super League 2017) are over.
According to Dato Posa, priorities are given to local trainee candidates. Dato Posa believed there are still local trainers capable of leading the Sarawak squad.
In the same development, Dato Posa supported the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) decision to increase the number of teams in the Super League 2018.
However, he said, the news is still a rumour to-date.
“For FAS is supporting the increase of the teams in the Super League 2018. And if it does, the Sarawak team will continue to compete next season,” said Dato Posa.
Dato Posa said he did not want the players to think too much about it but focus on the remaining three Super League matches.
“We must win the remaining three matches (Super League 2017), which is important to ensure Sarawak remain competitive in the Super League 2018.
