KUCHING:  Two workers were injured in an explosion at a factory at Samajaya Free Industrial Zone here yesterday morning.

According to a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) 19 personnel with two fire engines and an EMRS vehicle from Tabuan Jaya and Kuching fire stations were deployed to the scene after they received a distress call at 7.11am.

He said upon arrival, the firefighters were informed that the fire had already been put out by the factory’s emergency response team (ERT) with fire extinguishers.

The spokesman said about 40 per cent of the premises was destroyed by the fire and two people were reported injured in the incident.

He said the victims, Qhairul Apdar Mohd Firdaus, 23, and Liang Yuu, from the People’s Republic of China, were taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

It was reported that Liang Yuu sustained burns to his whole body in that fiery incident.
