SRI AMAN: Two people were killed and four others were seriously injured in a road accident which happened not far from the junction of the Batu Lintang-Sri Aman Road near here yesterday.

They were involved in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a saloon car at around 1.40pm. 

Five of the victims were passengers and the driver of the car while the other two were in the pickup truck.

The car was mangled and the driver and the front seat passenger were both pinned to their seats in the crash.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was summoned to the scene to help extricate the victims before rushing them to Sri Aman Hospital.

The driver, identified as Patrick Tumba Migik, 49, was reported to have succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The front seat passenger, identified as 27-year-old Alexander Jantom, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency ward.

Four other victims – Romauldo Rayung Robert, 20; Louis Costner Endang Julius Mamba, 23; Liak Jin Soon, 47; and David Ng Sen Gan, 40 – who were seriously injured, had also been admitted to Sri Aman Hospital. Liak is the driver of the pick-up truck while Ng his passenger.

Eleven firefighters in one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) vehicle led by William Baheng were involved in the rescue operation.
