Two major initiatives in youth devt capacity building

SARAWAK Youth Index Research and Sarawak Youth Development Committee are two major initiatives from Ministry of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports in the capacity building of youth development in Sarawak.

This was said by its minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when he delivered his winding speech at State Legislative Assembly (DUN), yesterday.

“Sarawak Youth Index Research was headed by Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IRYES), while Sarawak Youth Development Committee was headed by my ministry,

“The research is carried out with the objective to determine the wellbeing quality level of our local youth,

“This project is implemented through strategic collaboration with all the Resident’s Offices, involving a sample of 13,870 youths throughout the state within the age bracket of 15 until 30 years old,

“The research commenced in August 2018 and is expected to complete by May 2019,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the formation of Sarawak Youth Development Committee is in objective to ensure and streamline efficient planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of youth development programme in the State.

“It also serves as a One-stop Information Sharing Centre among all the agencies involved in dealing with issues, challenges and social ills affecting our youths,

“Based on the inputs from these initiatives, my ministry will be in better position to plan and evaluate any future youth development programme and initiatives that are tailored to the needs and aspirations of our youths from different segments and target groups in line with the government transformation agendas and policies,” he said.
