KUCHING: A contractor was cheated of RM4,300 in a parcel scam via social media.

The contractor aged 43 from Sibu was cheated between 10 and 15 October after he befriended a woman named Sandra Robinson.  She claimed to have US$1.5 million cash taken from President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein during his arrest and wanted to transfer the money into the victim’s account to show her love for him.

On 15 October, the victim was asked to bank in RM4,300 for documentation purposes which he did.

Sarawak Head of Commercial Crime, Supt. Mustafa Kamal urged the people to be cautious as they have never met the person who professed their love for them.

“Anyone can be behind the picture depicted in the social media and they should not be easily taken in by strangers talking on love,” he pointed out.

In Kuching, a housewife aged 29 was cheated of RM18,750 between 12 and 15 October in a Macau scam.

The victim had received a phone call from a person who claimed to be a police officer and that her bank account was used for money laundering.

She was then advised to put her money in another account provided by the caller which she did.

The two cases are being investigated.
