MUKAH: The Head of State (TYT), Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud was impressed with the traditional boat race called ‘Luba Salui Lukut’.

His Excellency and the wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Ragad Kurdi Taib were given the honour to flag off a demonstration race after opening the Mukah Kaul 2017 here, yesterday.

According to Mukah Parliamentary Youth Organisation chairman Royston Valentine, the Head of State had mentioned about reviving of this traditional sports during the Mukah Regatta 2015.

“So today we are glad to introduce this ‘Luba Salui Lukut’ to His Excellency. Hence, though the event today is not in our programme, we want Tun Pehin Sri to try it,” he said.

Royston, who is former member of Youth Parliament Malaysia, had hoped Their Excellencies could witness the ‘Luba Salui Lukut’ in person and flag off a demonstration race much to the delight of those present.
