KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud who is also Chancellor of UNIMAS and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Ragad Taib at tended UNIMAS Alumni Dinner 2017 at the State Legislative Assembly Complex here last Saturday.
The dinner held in conjunction with UNIMAS’ 25th anniversary was aimed at raising funds for the alumni to provide scholarships, student incentives and emergency fund to help the students. To date, UNIMAS alumni has managed to collect RM321,470 in donations from 91 individuals and 49 firms or organisations.
During the dinner UNIMAS also launched its endowment and presented platinum sponsor cheques involving well know local like Hock Seng Lee which contributed RM50,000. Among the platinum donors were ADUN N16 Muara Tuang Service Centre, SALCRA, Petra Jaya Parlimentary , Sarawak Energy, Ta Ann Holdings Berhad and UNIMAS Holdings Sdn. Bhd with each contributing RM20,000.
The state government also contributed RM250,000 which was approved by former Chief Minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem. UNIMAS Alumni comprises former students with a present total of 32,454.
Also present were Deputy Chief Mini s ter, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and wife, Datin Amar Doreen Mayang who represented the Chief Minister, Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, UNIMAS Pro-Chancellor, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who is also Deputy Mentor Minister for UNIMAS, UNIMAS Vice- Chancellor, Prof . Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Kadim Suadi , and Chairman of UNIMAS Board of Directors, Datu Hatta Solhi.
