Uggah welcomes fiery debate on Land Code Amendment Bill today

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of  Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas welcomes a fiery debate on the Land Code Amendment Bill which will be tabled in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)  today.

“Welcome! We have a lot of our Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) State Assembly members who are also fiery fighters,” Uggah told reporters when met at  the  DUN here yesterday.

He was asked to comment on the debate on the bill  which was  expected to be  fiery.

Uggah will be tabling the Land Code Amendment Bill in the State Legislative Assembly today. 

On the  proposed amendment of Land Code Bill, he added: “The most important thing is that the government is listening to the people.

“And we are coming up with the bill to solve the problems.    

“The Chief Minister is very conscious of the issues and he has  directed the committee to solve the problems. How do we solve the problems?  You  wait for me to table the bill,” he said.

Asked to comment on some non governmental organisations which wanted the bill to be postponed, Uggah said the bill was in the Order Paper on  July 11.

According to him, the Land Code Bill Amendment Bill is inclusive of all natives.

“We have  Malay  and Melanau Ministers who are  helping us,” he said.
