MARUDI: Marudi Control Room on Thursday received information about a fire incident at 11:30:00 hours when Officer-in-Charge of Station reported that he heard an amateur radio broadcast.
It was stated that a longhouse in Ulu Baram, Marudi was on fire.
The Marudi Fire and Sevices Department (BBP Marudi) rushed five personnel to the reported fire scene in one vehicle. They were led by PBMansur bin Wahie.
According to the information from the Marudi Control Room, the journey from Marudi Fire Station to the longhouse on fire took 10 hours by land transport.
Based on updated information received the fire totally razed 19 apartments or sections of the 30-door longhouse, leaving a total of 133 people homeless.

The other 11 families of the longhouse were safe from the fire. No fatality was reported but a 72-old man Apoi Lian suffered minor injuries on his hands and body, according to information received from Pusat Gerakan Operasi Bomba Sarawak yesterday.
Three motorcyles and two vehicles were also destroyed in the fire.
The Operation Commander was PPgB Maureen Sim Ah Lian, the Officer-in-Charge of BBP Marudi.
