KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) hopes to realise its dream of operating its own hospital under the new government. According to Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, UNIMAS’ intention to have its own hospital was given the silent treatment at the federal level under the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
“UNIMAS has been dreaming of operating its own hospital for a while now. “We hope that under the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, UNIMAS’ dream will be realised,” said Awang Tengah during the launching ceremony of UNIMAS Patriotic Cultural Night held in UNIMAS on Saturday.
The Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that Sarawak, which achieved its own independence on July 22, 1963, agreed to form Malaysia with “Tanah Melayu” (Peninsula Malaysia), Sabah and Singapore on September 16, 1963.
“Now, Sarawak wants to fight for its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the federal constitution. We want to get back all our rights which have been eroded all this while,” he said. Awang Tengah added that Sarawak wanted equal development in all fields.
