SIBU: It is important for the Muslim community to appreciate and deepen the history of Maal Hijrah. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said Muslims must appreciate and deepen the history of Maal Hijrah such as what happened at Madinah at that time during the migration (penghijrahan) of Islam from Mekah to Madinah.
“It important for us to appreciate and deepen the history of Maal Hijrah and we must understand the impact of the history in order to propel the development of society to a higher level, “ he said. Abang Johari said this at the State-Level Maal Hijrah celebration 2018 held at Sibu Islamic Complex Hall yesterday.
Maal Hijrah celebration was organised by Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and Sibu Resident’s Office.
The celebration was attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Ragad Kurdi Taib. Also present were Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee and Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha.
The Chief Minister therefore called on the people to continue preserving the harmony and peace among the multi-racial society.
As a multi-racial society, regardless of races and religion, he said Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole live together in harmony and peaceful. Thus, he wanted the people to continue to live together in peace, harmony and having mutual respect for each other’s religion.
“We must continue to preserve it…in order to be more intact and united. And also provide good services to the people. “Thus, we must together understand the impact from the Maal Hijrah,” he said, while also calling on the people to be equipped with complete knowledge.
