KUCHING: A Sarawak minister has given the thumbs-up to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamd’s emphasis on and recognition of the importance of mastering English to acquire knowledge.

“This has been our state’s stand since the time of Tok Nan (the late Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem) and now continued by our present Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,” said Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“We walk the talk through our state policies and practices. “It is even better if this is translated through policies and practices, especially through the Education Ministry,” she said when asked for her comment on the matter.

Recently, Dr Mahathir reminded Malaysians of the importance of mastering English.
