WIEF participants feted with traditional performances

KUCHING : A gala dinner was held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building in Petra Jaya, Kuching here on Tuesday night in conjunction with the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum (13th WIEF).

The dinner was also attended by His Excellency the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud; Prime Minister, Datuk Patinggi Mohd Najib Abdul Razak; Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg; Tun Musa Hitam, Chairman of WIEF Foundation; Ministers and heads of delegations. His Excellency the Governor in his welcoming remarks thanked the Prime Minister for giving Sarawak the opportunity to host the 13th WIEF.

He said participation of the various countries in the13th WIEF is quite important for Sarawak as it extend its horizone in recognising the many nations that have good relationships with it in various capacity from all over the world. At the dinner, guests were entertained to the best of Sarawak cultural performances.

The cultural performances include “Zapin Sebat” & ‘Joget Serampang Baru’ from the Malay community Sarawak Malay traditional dance; ‘Ajat Bujang Berani’ (Warrior Dance) from Iban community; ‘Mengalu Dance from Melanau community; ‘Rejang Be’uh’ or The Eagle Dance from the Bidayuh Community; ‘Dancing Through The Grapevine’ from the Chinese community; and ‘Kanjet Ngeleput’ or Blowpipe dance from the Orang Ulu community.

Award winning band, Tuku Kamek, from Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) also perforned. Malaysia singers and Sarawak very own talents Dayang Nurfaezah and Bob Yusof also performed.
