Wishing S’wak to move towards greater heights

KUCHING: Sarawak leaders on this New Year wish to see the state move towards greater heights. Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he hoped this year would be a more vibrant one for the state.

“I hope the tolerance and understanding among the multi-ethnic and religious communities that inhabit this beautiful state would continue to be preserved and respected,” he said.

Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said for this year’s resolutions he hoped to be able to implement all the projects to resolve the water stressed areas.

“It is also hoped the state could also increase electricity supply to its rural areas as per our master plan programme last year, and to be implemented within this year till 2020,” he said.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said his wish for Sarawak is it will be able to manage its own resources, get back its autonomy, and what have been due to the state since independence so that it could progress by leaps and bounds in 2019.

“To my staff in Padawan City Council, thank you for your dedication to the issues we care deeply about, particularly on flood mitigation, roadwork, traffic and refuse collection issues.

“We will continue our programmes on educating young people on the danger of drug abuse through sports. Thank you to all for your partnership on the encouragement and training of rural folk in small businesses.There also remains much to be done on educating the public on littering and recycling,” he added.

Lo said this is a pivotal time for Sarawak.

“We must work together to ensure that our eroded rights are returned to us under Malaysian Agreement  (MA63) and that our oil and gas resources are spent thoughtfully and carefully in a manner that expands our economy and supports those most in need,” said Lo.

He wished everyone a happy and healthy new year, and much success for 2019.

PBB Supreme Council Member Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said everyone must make 2019 a better time and situation for the state despite the challenges ahead which are still unknown.

“As long as we are together between the people and the leaders, then our state will continue to develop and move forward.

“Now, the people of Sarawak need to understand the changing political scenario in Malaysia that requires cooperation and support to local leaders,” he said

Hazland who is also Demak Laut assemblyman wished a very Happy New Year 2019 to everyone.

Meanwhile, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that in her new year resolutions she wished to see the ministry’s strategic plan for welfare, early childhood education and development, woman, family and community wellbeing

could be implemented smoothly so that it is able to achieve its objective.

“We share the Chief Minister’s vision of providing quality care and education for our children from birth till six years old,” Fatimah said.

Thus she said in 2019 the state will have its own Early Childhood Care and Education Council Malaysia (ECCE) institutions so that the state could develop its own policies based on the Sarawak needs.
