SIBU: A woman was found guilty of abetting the killing of her husband five years ago and was sentenced to death by the Sibu High Court here, yesterday. Judge Datuk Norcahaya Arshad made the decision after considering all the evidence provided, as the prosecution had successfully proven the case beyond any reasonable doubt. Ling Hang Tsyr, 36, and Tiong King Guan, 30, were charged with abetting the murder of her (Ling’s) husband Stephen Wong.

They committed the offence at a house in Ulu Sungai Merah on June 14, 2012, at around 1.30 am. Both of them were charged under Section 109 and Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code. Section 302 provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The principal offender, Ling Hoe Ing, 28, had pleaded guilty to an alternative charge on October 1, 2013 and was sentenced to 16 years’ jail.H oe Ing was charged under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code which resulted in death without intention to kill.

After Hoe Ing pleaded guilty, the court gave Ling Hang Tsyr and Tiong King Guan a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on their abettment charge, but was reinstated in February 2015 after the prosecution filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal. A warrant of arrest was issued to Tiong King Guan after he had failed to turn up in court after the charge has been reinstated. He is now still at large.
