MIRI: A woman became unconscious after she was believed to have drunk Clorox brand bleach at a rental house in Jalan Hokkien here on Monday evening.

The 34-year-old woman was rushed to Miri Hospital by a team from the Malaysian Civil Defense Corps (APM) who received an emergency call on the incident.

It is believed that the woman was alone in the house before she was discovered by her friend in an unconscious condition.

District Civil Defense Officer, Capt Mohd Hazle Shah Abdul Hamid said they received a call at 10.28 pm before three personnel were directed to the scene.

“The APM members who arrived at the site tried to revive her but she remained unconscious. She was then rushed to the hospital for treatment,” an APM officer said in a statement here, yesterday.

Mohd Hazle said based on the initial information received, the victim was said to have fainted after drinking bleach. However, the cause of the incident was unknown.
