KUCHING: A poverty eradication workshop held at the old State Legislative Assembly Building here yesterday attracted some 100 participants.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah who officiated at the event disclosed that 383 out of 419 recipients have already received welfare assistance from the State Welfare Department.

“We have achieved 91 per cent of our target and we plan to bring the remaining numbers down to zero within the next two months.

“This is a big responsibility for everyone involved when it comes to the eradication of poverty and I congratulate everyone for being here.

“This indicates your commitment to be together with us to achieve the objective of zero hardcore poverty,” she said.

Fatimah also spoke of their commitment on the ‘data cleaning’ process (Proses Pemutihan) in order to verify who is eligible to receive welfare assistance and who isn’t.

“We hope that after this, we won’t hear anymore negative or sinister comments from the public regarding e-Kasih.

“The verification process is also one that is ongoing and it’s not something that we can do alone.

“Therefore, we urge members of the public to come forward to help inform us so that we can decide whether to keep the names or remove them from the database,” she said.
