MIRI: A youth was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van at Jalan Airport here last Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Sigah Masaran, 20.

Sigah, who worked as a sales assistant at a local supermarket, was said to be heading back to his rented house at Taman Gilbert from his workplace when the accident occurred at around 10.15pm.

He died at the scene after sustaining serious head and bodily injuries.

Miri Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed receiving a report of the accident.

“The accident was believed to have occurred when the van turned into a junction to Jalan Tanjong and collided with the victim’s Honda Wave motorcycle who was travelling on the road from the opposite lane.

“The victim died at the scene while the van driver, aged 24, did not sustain any injury,” he said.

Stanley said the victim’s remains were taken to Miri Hospital for further action and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) (A) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
