BAU: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the state government’s rural transformation programme (RTP) and minor rural project (MRP) allocations are utilised mainly for the development of his constituency and Bau District in general.

Miro explained that most villages and areas in the district have roads as well as water and electricity supplies.

“As these basic facilities already exist the next stage is improving the economy of the local people.

“That is why we have RTP, MRP and other aids from the government. We use these to help the people improve their living standards,” he said at the opening ceremony of Pasar Tamu Paku last Saturday night (Aug 29).

Also present at the function were Bau District Officer Anelia Siam and Paku Kapitan, Pui Shiak Sin.

Miro said in each RTP allocation there would be RM1 million to RM2 million a year for economic development in Serumbu area.

Citing an example, the Gerai Rakyat Krokong (Krokong Peoples’ Stalls) will be developed soon and the stalls are specially designed for selling food.

“This will provide space and opportunities for locals to do business,” he said.

Miro said previously, there were just six food stalls and these were opened two years ago.

Due to positive feedback from visitors, the stalls were expanded and facilities were built for the convenience of shoppers and hawkers.
