NGEMAH constituency can house a digital village and be involved in digital marketing if given the opportunity to have digital technology facilities.

Anyi Jana (GPS-Ngemah) said this yesterday (Nov 24) in support of the Supply (2023) Bill 2022 and a Motion to Refer to the Development Budget Resolution for 2023.

He pointed out that with a digital village, there would be opportunities to promote, export, and sell final products online to users and customers around the world

“I foresee great potential in Ngemah exporting products due to the availability of Sibu Airport and Sibu Port.

“In addition, I would like to thank the government for providing basic infrastructures that almost cover 90% of my area.

“Nevertheless, I hope that infrastructure facilities such as roads can connect all settlement villages and longhouses within these five years,” he said.

Anyi also pointed out that there were many opportunities to improve the economy instead of just selling raw products that depended on market prospects.

For example, small factories or warehouses could be built to produce local brands such as downstream black pepper and final and value-added products for fruits such as dabai and rambutan to produce frozen fruit-based products, chips, and sweets.

He pointed out that these products would provide job opportunities for local children and stop youth from moving to the cities or towns to look for jobs.

“Other than that, they can also increase the income of the local population, provide opportunities for products to be exported in/out of the country; increase logistics business such as transport needs to transport products, and give birth to a supply chain which can increase economic activities in the Ngemah constituency,” he said.

Anyi added that his constituency was also capable of participating in tourism opportunities based on sustainability and back to nature.

“Through these, tourists will experience what longhouse folk do in their daily life such as farming, gardening, nature gathering and exploring the virgin forest of Seperi in Bukit Sepali.

“They can enjoy such experience with a world-class homestay and learn their arts and crafts such as pua kumbu, parang making and so on,” he said.
