KUCHING: Hope Place, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has come to the assistance of Mohd Firdaus Mohd Rasuli, a hit-and-run victim who lives in Matang, by providing his family with basic food aid and adult diapers.

The 35-year-old victim was involved in a car accident about two years ago and the accident has left him bedridden ever since.

“I used to be a personal driver to a VIP in Sibu but after the accident, I was left without any compensation or help from anyone.

“I am unable to move my body due to a spinal injury. My wife’s and my income used to allow us to live comfortably but now everything has drastically changed,” said Firdaus.

Due to the dire situation, he said his family’s finances had dwindled rapidly, particularly with a house rental of RM400 to settle every month.

All this while, he said that his family had also received help from their relatives and close friends.

Adding to the problem, Firdaus revealed that he discovered too late that he did not have the Social Security Organisation (Socso) or any insurance coverage after the accident, and that his wife, who used to work as a kindergarten teacher had to resign to care for him and his two children, aged 9 and 10.
