NGO lends help to families under lockdown

KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching recently provided food aid to families who are staying in Taman Mesra Bako, an area that is under lockdown.

The charitable non-governmental organisation (NG) in a statement today disclosed among the items given to the centres were drinking water, instant cup noodles, three in one coffee, Milo, biscuits, hand sanitisers and medical face masks.

“As no one is allowed to go in or out from the area, our founder Kelvin Wan and the team immediately delivered the food aid after receiving a call.

“According to a member of the village security and safety committee (JKKK) Salina Othman, Taman Mesra Bako with 833 families is put under lockdown from Apr 18 until May 1.

“There are approximately 120 frontline personnel on duty there including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM), Ministry of Health (MoH) and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela),” Hope Place said.

It added that should the public be interested to make a donation; they can do so through Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching Maybank account (5112-8900-116).

“For more information, you can reach us at 013- 567 2775. We are currently taking care of more than 190 needy families,” the NGO added.
