SIBU: During its monthly virtual meeting here today (Wednesday), Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) approved the operation of the night market and pasar tamu here.

Its chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horh, while chairing the monthly meeting via video conference, said the Sibu Night Market in Taman Rama-Rama would reopen on April 9 while the Pasar Tamu in Jalan Indah would start operating on April 10.

“However, the SMC would like to inform hawkers and the public to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during this conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“By SOPs, I mean wearing a face mask, checking the temperature, checking in by using the MySejahtera QR Code and practising social distancing with each other,” he said, adding all hawkers would be required to undergo swab tests.

On another matter, Ting revealed that SMC had been awarded a 5 Star Performance rating by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia.

“Of the 152 local councils evaluated, the SMC was placed in the 20th position.

“Performance is assessed based on management performance, core services provided, customer management and community participation and residents’ views,” he explained.

Following this, Ting thanked the SMC staff for their hard work and commitment in ensuring that they provided 5-star quality services to the people of Sibu.

“I would like to thank the people for their support and feedback to help SMC improve its services.

“In line with the SMC’s slogan of ‘Serving People Enhancing Lives’, we will continue to strive and work harder and better in the future to provide better services to the people of Sibu,” said Ting.
