MIRI: A boat with nine individuals suspected of carrying out recreational diving in Miri waters was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Miri Zone here on May 31.

Miri Maritime Zone director Captain (M) Md. Fauzi Othman said a boat was spotted carrying diving recreational activities at about 12.7 nautical miles in Miri waters.

“They failed to show a permit to conduct recreational diving activities.

“All nine individuals were taken to the police station and issued compounds under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342), for violating the conditional movement control order (CMCO),” he said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Maritime reminded maritime communities, especially boat operators engaged in recreational activities and fishing boats, to comply with the CMCO.

“This compliance is in full force throughout the CMCO, and all tourism and recreational activities must obtain written permission from the relevant departments.

“Strict warnings as well as stern action will be taken against individuals who disobey the order,” he said.
