Nine months’ jail for burglar

SIBU: A 32-year-old burglar who broke into a house in Lorong Brooke Drive 22 at 12.45am on Nov 5 and carted away RM2,000 worth of items was on Tuesday (Nov 9) ordered to be put behind bars for nine months by a Magistrates’ Court.

The charge against Mohd Khairol Azhar Md Azani from Sri Aman was framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the court heard that about 7pm on Nov 4, the complainant returned to his house and locked the fence before retiring to bed.

Then about 12.45am on Nov 5, the complainant was awakened by the sounds of items falling in the yard.

He then viewed the CCTV footage on his handphone and saw a man in the house area.

He then contacted his friend who lived nearby and asked for help. When his friend arrived, he proceeded to open the gate of the house and immediately went to the back door of the house.

However, the complainant found that the man who was in his yard had gone. Upon inspection, he found that several items had been stolen.

Among the items, he found missing included one unit of car battery brand Yokahama, a belt brand LV, six boxes of noodles brand Mee Sedap, a company invoice book and a pair of shoe brand New Balance, and estimated his loss at RM2,000.

He then lodged a police report. Acting on information received on the same day at about 2.10pm, a police team led by Insp Julkiram Kirah went to a house at Jalan Ipoh.

Upon arrival, Inspector Julkiram introduced himself as a police officer by producing his authority card to three men present at the place.

An inspection was conducted and Inspector Julkiram discovered some missing items in the house.

Following that, the three men were arrested with the items seized been brought to the police station for further investigation.

Based on the police investigation, the accused had broken into the house and stole away several items belonging to the complainant.
