KUCHING: Gedong will soon have a nine-storey hotel to cater for the increasing number of visitors to the district, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“I was made to understand that during the Gedong Festival 2023 that all the hotels and homestays in Serian are fully booked. I can see that the future of Gedong is indeed bright,” he said.

He was speaking at the closing of the Gedong Festival 2023 at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali Gedong here last night (July 30).

Abang Johari, who is Gedong assemblyman, said the district will be easily accessible with the construction of three new roads, namely Ulu Simunjan-Gedong, Serian-Gedong and Samarahan-Gedong.

“These roads are being developed to shorten the distance between the district and Simunjan, Serian and Samarahan.

“We also have the isthmus project across the river. It is hoped that this project (isthmus) will be implemented quickly after being walled off within six months.

“In addition to that, we will construct a new district office in Gedong as well,” he said.

Abang Johari reminded the people to maintain unity to enable Sarawak to become a developed and prosperous state.

“Alhamdulillah, a lot of people see Sarawak as exemplary. InshAllah, with the leadership that we have, we will continue our comprehensive development statewide,” he added.
