SIBU: Members of the public, who have yet to be vaccinated, are not prohibited to dine in at coffee shops or restaurants under the jurisdiction of the Sibu Rural District Council, said its chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.

He said it is up to the eatery operators to allow or forbid unvaccinated customers to dine in.

“They have the right not to allow unvaccinated customers from entering their premises.

“However, they are reminded not to discriminate against their customers, especially pregnant women and those who cannot receive the Covid-19 vaccine due to health reasons.

“Currently, Taman Selera Harmoni in Jalan Awang Ramli Amit has implemented this initiative where they only allow customers who have already obtained at least the first dose of the vaccine to dine in,” he said.

On another matter, Sempurai advised residents not to do open burning in their backyards as the current weather is dry and hot.

“It will only cause thick smoke which can affect the health of your neighbours, especially those with asthma and other health problems,” he said.
