KUCHING: The Batu Kitang constituency will no longer has any dilapidated houses in the next five years, said its assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

He said the state government has been channelling allocation of RM1 million each to all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives to assist the poor in repairing and rebuilding their homes under the minor rural project – house repair for the poor programme (MRP-PPRMS).

“From 2017 until today, through Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and with the help of grassroots leaders in Batu Kitang constituency, over 80 such houses have been repaired. Of these, 16 are in Kampung Haji Baki.

“I believe that within the next five years, there will be no more dilapidated houses with poor kitchen, leaking roof, etc,” he said at the Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS)’s ‘Gotong Royong Perdana’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) event at Masjid Datul Ehsan in Kpg Haji Baki here on Sunday.

Batu Kitang is a new seat carved from Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawah constituencies in the 2015 re-delineation exercise. Lo is the incumbent state assemblyman after winning the seat in the 2016 State Election by a majority of 1,840 votes against Democratic Action Party (DAP)’s Abdul Aziz Isa.

Lo mentioned that the Batu Kitang constituency has changed a lot compared to then, as the GPS state government has been bringing in various development projects into the area such as roads, street lights, and social amenities.

At the event, Lo presented a government grant of RM100,000 to the Masjid Darul Ehsan management committee to upgrade the mosque.

He also announced an allocation of RM300,000 to upgrade the village’s drainage system.
