KUCHING: A merger proposal between Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is nothing more than a ‘media sensational report, no more no less’, said Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

The PRS youth chief said at this time, there is no discussion being held about the so-called merger between PDP- PRS as reported by the media.

“These (the merger) are big things and not petty issues being made good through mere paper reports. The party hierarchy has to substantiate it.

“Since it is not a substantive report, we shall leave it as a mere report then,” he said in a statement today.

He stated that the current political situation in Sarawak is conducive with all the four component parties (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Sarawak United People’s Party, PRS, and PDP) already in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

“As for PDP-Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), the scenario was different since PSB was in the opposition and outside of GPS.

“In other words, let this environment remain status quo for the sake of stability,” he said.

Snowdan was responding to a report where Tiong commented on a suggestion by Julau MP Larry Sng about a potential merger between PDP and PRS.

Tiong had commented that PDP is open to a merger with PRS, but stated that it is ultimately up to the latter.

“For PDP, our door is always open, we can always look at it and welcome everybody. Most importantly, at the end of the day we must be one team to work towards saving the nation, especially the state (Sarawak),” he said.
