MUKAH:  There were no reports of floods in Mukah town and nearby areas including villages here as at yesterday despite daily intermittent rain in the last few days.

A survey by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday found that the water level in the Mukah River was normal.

In the middle part of the river where a few villages were located, the water level was normal, too.

The villages included Kampung Penakub, Jebungan, Tegak, Tabo, Sesok, Teh Labak, Teh and Sau.

“There is no flood in our kampung now,” said a villager identified only as Yong from Kampung Teh.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Tellian River, especially in the middle and upper parts, was slightly high but not at a dangerous level.

In Kampung Petanak, although the river slightly overflowed its banks, the villagers considered the water level as normal as all the houses were built on wooden stilts.

On Dec 6, some low-lying areas in Mukah town and Politeknik Mukah here were hit by flashfloods following a few hours of rain in the morning.
