KUCHING: Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found afloat at Kampung Jemukan Ulu, Asajaya last Sunday.

Samarahan district police chief DSP Lee Chong Chern said the post-mortem conducted at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday revealed that the man died of drowning and the case remains classified as sudden death.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there were no criminal elements or signs of physical abuse.

“The cause of death is drowning. No elements of criminal force. The man is believed to hit his head on a stone,” he said when contacted.

On Sunday, the deceased, Suhaidi Along, 41, who hailed from Kampung Semerak, was found floating in the river clad in red shirt and checked pants. He was later fished out from the water by the locals and handed over to the police.

In a separate case, state CID chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said the findings of the post-mortem on the body found stuffed in a suitcase floating in a river at Kampung Pangkalan Baik, Bau last Friday, would be revealed in court.

“A post-mortem was conducted. However, I am not at liberty to disclose the cause of death at this juncture.

“The cause of death will be disclosed in court as evidence if and when the case goes to court,” he said when contacted.

Asked if there would be more suspects to be arrested to facilitate police investigation to the case, Leong said, “I am optimistic”.
