SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) is still waiting for the green light from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force for it to be used as another vaccination centre (PPV) here.

Its board of directors chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee said UCTS will be operated by the Faculty of Medicine of SEGi University and it is capable of administering 1,000 vaccinations a day.

“If it is approved, then there will be another PPV in Sibu besides the Sibu Indoor Stadium, Lanang Clinic and Sibu Jaya Health Clinic, Sibu Jaya Community Hall, Dewan Suarah Sibu and the mobile vaccination unit.

“With the addition of the new centre, the vaccination process in Sibu will be further accelerated in our efforts to achieve herd immunity by the end of August,” he said, adding that the Dewan Suarah Sibu PPV, which will open on June 21, is operated by Rejang Medical Centre.

Dr Annuar, who is also the Sibu District Disaster Management Committee coordinator, said the committee will also set up industrial PPVs for the vaccination of industrial sector workers as well as their family members.

“For the vaccination process in rural areas (under the mobile unit), I have instructed the village development and security committee and longhouse chiefs to be directly involved to ensure the Covid-19 immunisation programme in their areas runs smoothly,” the Nangka assemblyman added.
